Romans 1:1–6 CSB

1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God—2 which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures—3 concerning his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who was a descendant of David according to the flesh 4 and was appointed to be the powerful Son of God according to the Spirit of holiness by the resurrection of the dead. 5 Through him we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the Gentiles, 6 including you who are also called by Jesus Christ.

Explanation

“Through Him”

Romans 1:3 “concerning his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord…”

THE Son of God = monogenes = the only one of His kind

He is TRULY MAN

He relates to us on every level EXPLICITLY

Romans 1:4 “and was appointed to be the powerful Son of God according to the Spirit of holiness by the resurrection of the dead.”

Jesus Christ our kyrios (Our Supreme Master/King/Older Brother) is ALIVE!!

“Through Him we have received GRACE”

There is NO OTHER WAY TO RECEIVE GRACE!!

We receive grace THROUGH HIM!

IF we are looking to find grace, we need to be FOUND IN HIM

GRACE TO THIS UNIVERSE COMES THROUGH HIM

There is NO OTHER FOUNTAIN BY WHICH TO DRINK…

Jeremiah 2:13 CSB

13 For my people have committed a double evil: They have abandoned me, the fountain of living water, and dug cisterns for themselves— cracked cisterns that cannot hold water.

Why do we WORK to dig for ourselves cisterns thinking that we are going to receive GRACE from them alone…THEY HOLD NO WATER!!

We fool ourselves into believing that if we WORRY over a thing or situation, we can manipulate the outcomes

Worry gets us NOTHING.

IT HOLDS NO WATER…

GRACE only comes through YAHWEH

Matthew 6:26–27 CSB

26 Consider the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they? 27 Can any of you add one moment to his life span by worrying?

We receive GRACE THROUGH HIM…

We need to lean into Him through EVERYTHING

Leaning in requires TRUST and KNOWING His Good Character…

Our Love is incomplete, but should be GROWING

We sin because our LOVE IS LACKING

4 What am I going to do with you, Ephraim? What am I going to do with you, Judah? Your love is like the morning mist and like the early dew that vanishes.

You have received GRACE and your current POSITION in the GOSPEL to:

to the LOST in the part of the WORLD that God has sovereignly placed you in

to the BROTHERS and SISTERS of the Kingdom

Do you live for the sake of His Name??

Name = reputation and character of the person

Do we magnify Jesus in every area of our lives?

When people see our lives from different facets, what would they say our lives are REALLY about?

Could they see that we live, move, and breathe “for the sake of His Name”?

I don’t believe this is a “try harder” thing…it’s an “ABIDE HARDER” thing…

If we are to be people who live “for the sake of His name”, the SECRET is not in our “TRYING TO SHOW” harder…

PRESENTATION without POSSESSION is HYPOCRISY…

This lifestyle change is going to come about just like EVERYTHING ELSE WE HAVE RECEIVED IN HIS KINGDOM…

By His GRACE…

Get with Jesus, in the Spirit, as you go throughout your day…

Where are YOUR affections?

if you don’t like your DIRECTION, check your AFFECTION

Your affections SHOW, with what makes you GLOW…

What is it in this life that makes you GLOW?

is it yourself?

Your efforts?

Your accomplishments?

Your dreams and ambitions?

We will be a people who live “for the SAKE of His name”, when we grow in our AFFECTION of His name.

His reputation

His character

The Challenge is to spend more time paying attention to Jesus in your many areas of life…TAKE NOTICE OF HIM.

THROUGH HIM we have received GRACE

THROUGH HIM we have received the call to the GOSPEL

THROUGH HIM we will walk in the OBEDIENCE OF FAITH

THROUGH HIM we will live FOR THE SAKE OF HIS NAME

If your daily affections are set on Jesus, in the large and small things of life, you will find the grace THROUGH HIM to live “for the sake of his name” and it will NOT be able to be hidden…

You will GLOW.
